PROFILE

WELCOME!

....The Switch of Nature Campaign through its artistic trait and education programs tends to facilitate humanity’s quest for sustainable global peace through you.

PREAMBLE:

The overall direction taken by the historical development of man’s knowledge of change as a constant phenomenon was first established by his continued encounter with switch of nature ever since he became a living soul.

The "switch of nature", conceptually, is defined as the alternating constant cycle of the night and day. A dynamic funtion of time, which represents change in  itstwo basic natural laws: DAY and NIGHT.
However, for the purpose of  our cause  as it concerns humanity's social experience, we hereby rename day and night as "Peace and War."

War has been considered a natural state of affairs while peace is on the other hand known as a time of recovery from the previous conflict, and when preparation is being made for the next war.
Meanwhile, according to our study on the concept of switch of nature,  this social experience has remained constant. Yet, all nations long for peace. Leaders negotiate for it. Millions pray for it. Of course, armies fight for it.  But unfortunately, peace has remained more elusive than ever.
Perhaps our attitude toward this "constant" will determine how sustainable a peace we can all enjoy in the earth.
This is why  The Switch of Nature Campaign (TSNAC) came into existence.
TSNAC, therefore, intends to present empathy as a necessary cultural preservative towards achieving sustainable global peace.
TSNAC is also committed to using artistic impressions and other theatrical presentations to educate, gather, explore and nurture idea, as well as creating opportunities aimed at enabling humanity to consciously participate in the building of sustainable global peace.
TSNAC intends to call on the United Nations to set out a day to be remembered and celebrated annually as an International Day for Empathy.

VISION
We are committed to building an empathic society where men and nations will be free from all timely negative changes affecting universal peace building.

MISSION STATEMENT

We are an artistic non-governmental,not-for-profit,non-religious,non-partisan organization; clearly committed to the building of sustainable global peace by:
  • Organizing art exhibitions, man-power development workshops, conferences, education programs and seminars for all conflict areas.
  • Supporting research, documentation, and enhance monitoring and evaluation processes of peace actors around the world.
  • Participating annually in the United Nations International Day of Peace celebration.
  • Calling on United Nations to set out a day to be celebrated as an International Day of Empathy.
OVERALL AIM

"This, nothing less, is the labor to which we are called and our strength dedicated.
And so the prayer of our people carries far beyond our own frontiers, to the wide world of our duty and our destiny.May the light of freedom, coming to all darkened lands, flame brightly - until at last the darkness is no more.May the turbulence of our age yield to a true time of peace, when men and nations shall share a life that honors the dignity of each, the brotherhood of all."
-- Dwight David Eisenhower:Oct. 14,1890- March 28,1969.

We identified a portrayal of an earth in distress, and the coming of a new global community that now tasked man with so many details to contend with. Through research, we found that historically and currently many societies are not living for one another. This, therefore, produces a negative effect toward the building of sustainable global peace.

Thus, our overall goal is:

To present empathy as a necessary cultural preservative towards achieving sustainable global peace.

PROJECT KEY ACTIVITIES
1. United Nations International Day of Peace 2011.
2. United Nations International Day of Peace 2012.

SPECIAL ACTIVITY: THE NIGERIA MUST BE BETTER PROJECT

An A5 sized sample sticker
The Nigeria Must Be Better initiative of The Switch of Nature Campaign (TSNAC) is a clarion-call to all Nigerians, friends and well-wishers across the earth to join us to consolidate the emerging rebirth of the nation’s near-lost hope of “one big democracy” (inside Africa) onto a sustainable future.

The goal of this initiative is to improve the socio-economic state of the nation (one Nigerian at a time). We intend to do this focusing on the following thematic areas: Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES), Citizenship and Leadership Training Programs, Cultural Diplomacy, Conferences, Seminars and Exchange Programs.

With strong national involvement, we can ceaselessly improve lives for all Nigerian people especially the youths. All that is required is the determination to make a difference.  So we can – and we must make Nigeria better.

1.0 INTRODUCTION

As wonderful as many things in life may seem to us, not too many of us have an adequate knowledge of their purposes and how to make proper use of them. Therefore, when the purpose of something is not known, abuse is inevitable.

From the earliest technological tools of the primitive man to the (July 29, 2011) successful landing of the modern man’s space shuttle in Florida, United States of America; the world has continued to experience numerous challenges in her development until now.
Sometimes it will seem as though “a thick dark cloud” is falling down upon us; while in some other times the introduction of new ideas and information in the midst of these global challenges gradually help us with new strength toward dominating our environment.
This natural phenomenon, in my own personal observation, is what I have theorized as “SWITCH OF NATURE”; which can be literally defined as the natural constant cycle of the emergence of the morning from the shadow of death (i.e. night).
In this context, the experience of problems and the ability of finding their solutions are all part of the same adventure of living a life in a changing world. So all we need is to re-orient our thinking so that we can be more responsive to change as a healthy and important part of our life.

2.0 LEARNING FROM THE FREE RANGE MOTHER-HEN ON THE USE OF PURPOSE-ORIENTED VOICE TOWARD A COMMON HUMANITY PRESERVATION

WORLD PEACE DAY 2011 THEME: MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD.

The mother-hen is universally known for her expertise in the use of voice to raising a family. She naturally clucks loudly after laying an egg, and continues clucking until a new generation of chicks are hatched and also raised.

Whenever there is an approaching predator, she also employs her clucking to “a low warning call”, whereby her chicks adhering strictly to her warning, quickly run toward her for protection under her wings.

The United Nations, in all her humanitarian aid activities can be likened to the mother-hen; while every human being is her chick!

In the message of the UN Secretary –General (Mr. Ban Ki-moon) for this year’s event; he said that,“democracy is the core value of the United Nations; that it is crucial for human rights…but democracy does not just happen. It has to be nurtured and defended”. In this context also, President Dwight David Eisenhower (1890-1969) had this to say; “the building of such a peace is bold and solemn. To proclaim it is easy. To serve it will be heard. And to attain it, we must be aware of its full meaning and ready to pay its full price.”

In the context of democracy, defined as the government of the people, by the people, and for the people; we have all become co-players in the building of sustainable global peace, whereby our voices have become so important to be heard. Therefore, as an artistic organization, we decided to paint a portrait of the life of the free range mother-hen, to enable us achieve a characteristic impression of the full meaning of purpose-oriented voice toward universal peace building; in order to motivate the public.

Sometimes when I remember my life as a teenager, when I used to listen to one of the most famous black American Hip-hop rapper “Tupac Sharkur (1971-1996)”, who said in one of his lyrics”Hit’em up” (June 4, 1996) that, killing ain’t (is not) fair, but somebody gon’a (got to) do it ( a statement I found too unfortunate); I begin to wonder at what extent man can be civilized to the right use of his voice, especially in the music industry. However, I do know that the world believes life is all about fame; but sound wisdom teaches us to get a good name rather than silver and gold. Fame is not everything!

The truth of the matter is that we owe so much to the great number of individuals around us who are deaf and dumb. So based on this alone, I wish to say that in as much as we are using 2011 to call people to make their voices heard, we should also remember to tell them to speak the right things and listen to the right voices. And for 2012 event, I am suggesting that the theme should be; “LISTEN TO THE VOICE OF HOPE!!! “

3.0   THE BUILDING OF A GREATER NIGERIA

An ancient Igbo proverb says that, “A blacksmith who is not acquainted with the practical knowledge of gong (an Igbo traditional musical instrument) making, should consider having a closer observation at the tail of a kite”.
The above saying is about the use of a constant intercourse with nature toward finding a pathway to a happy and successful life. For instance, Americans believe that everybody can be better, when given the opportunity to achieve such a change through learning the basic principles of life.

So while in the construction of their American-dream of freedom for all races; they also have it written at the back of their currency: IN GOD WE TRUST.
In other words, without such a life style as faith, the recent revolution that brought Barack Obama to power would not have been successful. Just like in Nigeria, we witness the same kind of revolution bringing Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to power; as the current President of Nigeria.
In his May 29, 2011 inaugural address, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan called on every Nigerian citizen to make a constant pledge to what is known as the principle of true defense; saying that, “we live in an age where no country can survive on its own; countries depend on each other for economic well-being. Nigeria is no different.”
Unfortunately, the bombing of the United Nations building in Abuja, August 26,2011;  is a complete disagreement with this truth by a group known as Boko Haram.

The group’s name, which being interpreted “western education is a sin”; has emerged as an eclipse against the nation’s infant democracy. But like every other natural eclipse the world has ever experienced, she will soon give way for this infant democracy to grow into adulthood. In case if they need to understand the power of "unity in nature". The East, West, North and South are the four main cardinal points of the sailors’ compass, which when not properly balanced will leave the ship directionless.

A simple mathematics goes further to show that if we divide the period of time (i.e.; 24hours) required for a complete revolution of the earth around the Sun by these 4 points, we shall have for each revolution per 1 cardinal point, 6 hours for every new rotation of the earth  around the Sun. Meaning that no day is complete without these 4 cardinal points completing their respective revolutions.

In this context, the term " western education is a sin"( which is an indirect attempt to remove the western world), is a movement against nature. The resultant effect has been; and ever will produce a disastrous end for all members of such group. But Boko Haram members have been deceived to think that God is behind them - while in the real sense they are acting like "Judas Iscariot" who chose suicide as a way of escape from his sins.

We are sympathizing with the United Nations and all the families of the victims of that August 26, 2011 attack; but wish to also use this medium to remind every peace loving person here today that we have an online petition to the UN Secretary-General; calling for a day to be set aside and celebrated as an International Day of Empathy.

Empathy is the mental capacity to think and feel oneself into the inner life of another person, in order to cultivate a desire to help them. (Heinz Kohut)

For this petition (at www.change.org/afrydef) to be successful, we require one million signatures of men, who would want their voices to be heard toward the preservation of our common humanity.

As a matter of fact may I say that, for Nigeria to achieve her dream of a greater tomorrow, she needs to blur the line between self and other; and boldly operate within the principle of true defense, and also be free enough to say to one another: YOU ARE MY STERNGHT!

4.0 CONCLUSION
Ladies and Gentlemen: new seasons will always rise to fill the place of the departing old seasons; but the more certain is the fact that none of our good works will ever leave the mouths of the people we shall be handing over this journey: as we take our leave at last.

In concluding this presentation, I wish to join my faith with the beloved President Dwight D. Eisenhower (of the blessed memory), as I lift up my right hand in prayer:” May the light of freedom, coming to all darkened lands, flame brightly- until at last the darkness is no more. May the turbulence of our age, yield to a true time of peace, when men and nations shall share a life that honors the dignity of each, the brotherhood of all”.

So help us God. Amen!!

N/B: The official date for United Nations International Day of Peace is September 21st,annually.However, we at The Switch of Nature Campaign(TSNAC); because of insufficient time - caused by a prolonged art critic for a better pictorial impression of the UN's theme "Make Your Voice Heard"; decided to use November 26 to mark this day in our local region.
